Prolotherapy and Musculoskeletal Medicine

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)

PRP is for joint injury, tendon injury, degenerative joint disease, pain and reduced musculoskeletal function, Dr. Johnson was one of the first doctors to bring PRP to the Indiana/Kentucky region before coming back to New York. He also offers ultrasound guidance in the office when needed. PRP is a concentrated solution of blood plasma containing a significantly higher-than-normal concentration of platelets. While platelets are widely known for their role in blood clotting, they also contain hundreds of specialized proteins called growth factors that are essential for the body’s natural healing and tissue regeneration processes. Dr. Johnson uses Em-cyte PRP kits which have been shown to produce a superior amount of PRP capture compared most other extraction methods leading to more regenerative potential. PRP can be supported by nutritional supplementation, growth factors, prolotherapy, prolozone and osteopathic treatments in our clinic.

Prolotherapy

Dr. Johnson trained in Osteopathic prolotherapy and has been practicing for over 25 years using this modality.  Prolotherapy involves glucose/lidocaine/saline and sometimes B12 mixture which can be further customized to fit individual situations. Prolotherapy can be helpful for traumatic injuries to joints, muscles, tendons and ligaments. ligaments and reduce inflammation and degenerative changes of the musculoskeletal system. Usually a series of sessions are involved in a treatment plan depending on the extent of the injuries and problems. Prolotherapy can be supported by PRP, Prolozone, nutritional therapy an Osteopathic treatment. Dr. Johnson has taught and trained with the American Osteopathic Association of Prolotherapy Regenerative Medicine.

Prolozone:

Prolozone therapy is a non-surgical, regenerative injection treatment for chronic pain and joint injuries that combines ozone gas, anesthetics, vitamins, and minerals. It works by increasing oxygenation and stimulating collagen production, promoting tissue repair, reducing inflammation, and alleviating pain in joints, ligaments, and tendons.  It can be used alone or conjunction with PRP or prolotherapy and Osteopathic treatments.  Prolozone is gaining interest internationally for many interventions but is not FDA approved for any specific musculoskeletal disorders.

Osteopathic Musculoskeletal treatments and Cranial Osteopathy Cranial and somatic-emotional Trigger Point Release.

In addition to Osteopathic Manual Medicine techniques offered in our office, Dr. Johnson offers trigger point therapy. Trigger points can reveal chronic pain patterns from past injury or stress that can be relieved or uncover subtle emotional trauma that has somaticized into the tissues and once recognized can be released and pain conditions improved. Dr. Johnson understands how particular regions of the body are connected to different types of emotional stress or trauma and can work with you to overcome these challenges.

In some cases, trigger point injections can be applied to difficult pain patterns using a variety of substances from anesthetics to natural healing substances. Dry needle techniques are also incorporated when helpful as is osteopathic manipulation and cranial sacral therapy.
